I own a small land surveying company in Jensen Beach, Florida named Atlantic Land Design of the Treasure Coast, Inc.
I have 2 fleet trucks, and when I purchased them, I purposefully bought Toyota Tacoma 4X4's with 4 cylinder engines for fuel economy. I get 23 MPG in the regular cab truck and the other truck gets 17 MPG on a good day. My monthly gas costs run in excess of $1100 a month.
I have been rumbling to my wife for ages I am sick of paying for gas and helping big oil companies get record profits. More importantly contributing to this countries dependency on foreign oil.
I started up again last night and told her I am looking for a Tacoma with a blown engine and buying it and making this happen. I remembered my brother in law just blew the engine on his 93 Toyota Pickup, a quick phone call got me my truck for $250. Off to a great start.
Now I have to decide it I want to purchase a complete kit or make one myself, I also have to decide on batteries. Room is not an issue but I want to keep initial costs down, so I might opt for less efficient golf cart batteries and eventually upgrade to more efficient batteries as the years pass.
So this blog has been created to document my project, and more importantly to encourage others to do the same as I.
Since the big 3 do not want to be bothered doing this its up to us individually to do it. I hope to show you how easy this is to do and hope many will follow.
